Curious, that has to be the word I would choose if I have to describe myself in one word. Curiosity leads one towards the unknown and increases understanding of the world. I like science as it is one of the best ways to satisfy one’s curiosity. It’s hard to believe that Wellcome Trust/DBT alliance is paying me to do things which I would gladly do for free!

I have specifically liked computational data analyses. Data generated from millions of dollars involving hundreds of scientist is available free of cost to anybody. So one can make important discoveries in biology with just a computer and an internet connection! It is fast-paced and perfectly suited for an impatient person like me.

I have also liked evolution a lot. It’s the evolution that has created us; it has created brain which can think about its own existence. Evolution also makes pathogens resistant to drugs created by humans, with devastating consequences. However, we can use evolution in the lab to turn it against these pathogens. I am using laboratory evolution to identify targets of anti-malarial compounds in P. falciparum, against which we urgently need new drugs. So I am finally doing what I always wanted to do: experience the power of evolution in my own hands, and helping to create drugs to save lives.
