I did my Bachelors in biology (Zoology, Botany and Chemistry) from CCS University, Meerut (1999). For my Master’s in Biotechnology, I joined School of Biotechnology (SBT) in Jawaharlal Nehru University (2001). In year 2002, I chose Prof Rakesh Bhatnagar’s lab at SBT to undertake my PhD thesis project. My thesis project focused on characterization of a GroEL homolog from Xenorhabdus nematophila (XnGroEL) with the insecticidal potential (Joshi et al., JBC 2008). I received two patents (European Union & Indian) for the discovery of novel bio-insecticidal molecule (XnGroEL). My thesis project got me intrigued in the molecular and genetic pathways that allow microbes to adapt and diversify under diverse environments. In 2008, I joined Dr David Bates’ Lab at Baylor College of Medicine as a post-doctoral fellow. During my post doc not only did I learn the fundamentals of chromosome segregation and its impact on genomic instability but also got trained in classical genetics and high-end fluorescence imaging methods.  In July 2015, I moved back to India to join the Centre for DNA Fingerprinting and Diagnostics (CDFD) as a group head (Ramachandran Fellow) of Laboratory of chromosome Structure and Dynamics. I have also been awarded with Ramalingaswami and Ramanujan fellowship. In September 2016, I joined a newly established centre “Multidisciplinary Centre for Advance Research and Studies (MCARS)” at Jamia Millia Islmia as Assistant Professor (UGC-FRP flagship program) where I am heading an independent research group (Laboratory of chromosome dynamics). Research in my lab is focused on determining the  structure and dynamics of nucleoid during cell cycle and its implication in genetic diversification and adaptation of E. coli under diverse environment.
