I did my medical school from Karnataka Institute Medical Sciences, Hubli. As a state government college set up I did not get much exposure to research opportunities then. During my internship and entrance preparation for post graduation, I developed interest in genetics, behavioral and neurosciences which led me to choose biochemistry initially. However, my fascination and spirit to get clinical exposure along with the will to explore more in behavioral and neurosciences brought me to the prestigious institute NIMHANS where I did my MD in Psychiatry. The journey over the last 3 years through my MD has been wonderful. I developed interest in schizophrenia- a disorder with its varied psychopathology and heterogeneous presentation has always fascinated me. It propelled me to do my MD thesis in schizophrenia and investigating the effect of a non- invasive brain stimulation technique called tDCS (Transcranial direct current stimulation) in patients with schizophrenia. During my work with patients with schizophrenia in last 3 years, there are various factors which affect the functionality and quality of life of patients - One among them comprise of cognitive deficits especially working memory deficits.

Under the guidance of my supervisors (Dr. Venkatasubramanian Ganesan [Department of Psychiatry] & Dr. Monojit Debnath [Department of Human Genetics]), I intend  to examine the neurobiological correlates of working memory deficits in schizophrenia as well as the effect of add-on HD- tDCS on working memory deficits. I look forward to learn structured clinical research, HD- tDCS and neuromodulation techniques, genetics and imaging analysis, basic and advanced statistics. I am hopeful that this opportunity will help me in getting systematic training and to pursue my carrier as a clinician researcher.
