India Alliance @ Kolkata

In collaboration with the Centre for Modern Biology, University of Calcutta, the India Alliance is pleased to bring its third
"Science & Communication Workshop" to Kolkata on 23 & 24 April 2011.


This workshop will include training on the following skills:

  • Making effective presentations
  • Grants Writing

To apply for the workshop you must be:

  • An independent biomedical researcher who has joined a tenure track position within the last 5 years.
  • At any non-profit research Institute or University in India.

Important points to note:

  • Entry to the workshop is by invitation only.
  • Registrations are now closed.
  • It is mandatory for all participants to submit their application online.
  • Selected applicants would have to submit a 1000 word proposal within 10 days of being invited to participate. This will be circulated to mentors before the workshop and you will receive feedback on it.
  • Space is limited and late applications will not be accepted. The Office’s decision on all matters will be final.
  • There are no fees to attend the workshop. If you are not resident in Kolkata, accommodation and transportation costs will be provided.

About the workshop


This workshop is a unique opportunity for newly establishing researchers to develop their skills in communication and interact with India Alliance Committee Members. At this workshop you will learn about basic principles which when applied to a situation, can help you convey your idea using either speech or text.

"Presentation Skills"

"Grants Writing"


With the 1000 word proposal as a template, mentors will advice on grant writing in general and give personal feedback on the proposal you have submitted. Please note that mentors may not necessarily be from your area in science and thus, may not be able to provide specific advice on your science. Additionally, in this session the India Alliance Office will review its’ experience with Fellowship applications and will take you through an India Alliance full application. Mentors would include members of the India Alliance Selection Committee. A list of mentors will be announced in due course.
